Ayushman Bharat Yojana

Ayushman Bharat, India’s leading Government program, was launched as recommended by the National Health Policy 2017, to achieve the vision of Global Health Care (UHC). This initiative is designed to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and its compelling commitment, “leaving no one behind.” This article focuses on Ayushman bharat Yojana.

Introduction

The Ayushman Bharat Program was launched in 2018 to address health problems at all levels – primary, secondary, and tertiary. It has two parts:

  • Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), formerly known as the National Health Protection Scheme (NHPS)
  • Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs)

Ayushman Bharat is an integrated approach that combines health insurance with primary, secondary and tertiary health care. HWCs aim to improve access to affordable and high quality primary health care services. PM-JAY will pay for financial protection of access to secondary health care and higher education.

Health and wellness centres (HWCs)

The Government of India has transformed the existing subsidiary and primary health care facilities into Health and Health Centres in February 2018. The ultimate goal is to bring health care closer and more accessible to the poor. The highlight of these centres is the delivery of maternal and child care services and free diagnostic and therapeutic resources.

Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM -JAY)

PMJAY is also known as the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana Scheme, one of the largest health care programs funded by the Indian Government. The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi unveiled the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana health program with the aim of catering to more than 50 million Indian citizens and nearly 10 families of the poorest people without restrictions on family size and age. Ayushman Bharat Yojana (PMJAY) will help these families get health care betting services with up to INR 5 lakh per family per year at the expense of hospital and secondary education.

Benefits of PM-JAY

PM-JAY is a visionary program that aims to realize the concept of Universal Health Coverage (UHC). It offers many benefits, which are discussed below.

  • It will reduce the cost of treatment for many families, meanwhile, which is out of pocket money. Eligible families can have access to quality health services without going into debt.
  • The insurance cover provided by this program covers items that are generally not included in standard medical claims (for example, pre-existing conditions, congenital heart disease, and mental health conditions).
  • The system requires hospitals to maintain a minimum standard.
  • Insurance brokers and executives of foreign companies will be able to access a large new market that opens up as a result of this program.
  • The program has the potential to initiate comprehensive reforms in the Indian health system.
  • After the first year of the program, beneficiary families are said to have saved more than Rs.13000 crores.
  • More than 60% of medicines are made in private hospitals. Private companies have played a major role in this program and have also benefited from it. In many Level II and III cities, private hospitals have seen an increase in the number of feet.
  • Economically vulnerable sections of society can access quality health care services without financial constraints.

What is covered under Ayushman Bharat Yojana?

PMJAY pays for the following costs during treatment:

  • Ayushman Bharat Yojana Scheme provides medical examination, treatment and consultation fees
  • The cost of going to the hospital is covered under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana policy
  • Post-hospital costs are fixed for 15 days
  • The policy also addresses the cost of medication and medical supplies
  • The cost of hospital accommodation is also rectified
  • Less utilized services and ICU
  • The costs incurred in the Diagnostic Procedures are also reimbursed
  • Medical implant services are covered where required
  • Expenses arising from complications arising during treatment
  • Food services

PMJAY Program: eligibility criteria for rural area

  • Family without an adult / male / lead between the ages of 16-59
  • Families living in one room with walls and roofs of Kuccha Kuccha
  • Family without members between the ages of 16-59
  • Family without a healthy adult member and one disabled member
  • Families of fishermen by hand
  • Landless families earn the bulk of the family income through manual labour

  • Domestic worker
  • The beggar
  • Rag picker
  • Home-based Craftsmen / Tailor tailor / Craftsman / Sanitation worker / Money
  • Construction Work / Work / Artist / Publisher / Guard / Coolie
  • Washer-man / Waterman / Mason
  • Electrician / Mechanic / Compiler / Repair Worker
  • Transport Officer / Carriage Tractor / Conductor / Trailer Truck 
  • Waiter / Shopkeeper / Assistant / Assistant / Delivery Assistant
  • Street Traders / Artist / Carpenter

Documents required to apply for Ayushman Bharat Yojana scheme

  • Proof of age and identity document (Aadhaar Card / PAN Card)
  • Contact details (mobile, address, email)
  • Cast Certificate
  • Income certificate (maximum annual income will only amount to Rs. 5 lakh per year)
  • Document proof of current family status to be covered (Combined or nuclear)

Online registration process for Ayushman Bharat Yojana

It’s easy to sign up for the PMJAY program. It applies to all beneficiaries identified under the SECC 2011 list and those who are part of the RSBY program. However, if you want to sign up for PMJAY online, you can follow the steps given below:

  • Visit the official government website for the PMJAY program
  • You will find the Qualifications tab, just click on it
  • Submit your mobile number, CAPTCHA code, and click the Generate OTP button
  • Now enter your Province and your name, rating card number, home number, or mobile number
  • If your family is covered under Ayushman Bharat Yojana, your name will be displayed in the results

Conclusion

The government believes that only healthy India can win the global competition. To ensure affordable health services for all categories of people, a number of government-funded health programs have been introduced in recent years. On the other hand, the government has come up with the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat ar insurance scheme.
